With the advent of large monoculture farms, and the loss of traditional wildflower meadows, large areas of the British countryside have been converted into virtual deserts for insects seeking a variety of pollen and nectar. Further action is required to restore a diversity of forage for insects. Three species of bumblebee have recently become extince in the UK, as a result of loss of habitat.
The unknown impact of GM crops ia another area of concern, which requires further investigation.
Recently, small inroads have been made into the planting of amenity, council and grassland areas. Whilst encouraging, further lobbying is required to ensure that this process is continued and expanded.
